Musings from Meredith...

I recently attended our church's annual women's retreat; the theme verse for the weekend was Exodus 33:14, "My Presence will go with you and I will give you rest."

Throughout the weekend, we were encouraged to remember particular times when God was especially present in our circumstances of life. Sometimes we are able to tangibly experience God's peace, His Comforting Word, and His provision. Yet sometimes we don't.

On Monday morning, as the retreat was already becoming a fading memory, I opened a devotional book given to us at the previous year's retreat and read the same exact verse: "My Presence will go with you and I will give you rest."

The retreat and devotional served as a reminder that we do not have to rely on our own shifting sense or our fickle feelings when it comes to God's presence or promises. This presence is inescapable, but often buried under our anxieties, fears, or just the day's "to do" list. It is a presence that often fades into the background of our busyness. But it is a promise issued from the mouth of God, a promise that He Himself makes and will actively see through to its completion. I would encourage you to look back on points in your life when you experienced God's forgiveness, protection, provision, etc in everyday circumstances. Pause even now, just for a moment, to think back on those times...

Several women at the retreat shared some of their most difficult challenges in life with the group: experiencing the death of a husband, learning your child is a special needs child, going back into the work force after a 10 year hiatus... these women experienced the Lord's presence in profound ways during some of their most challenging trials and painful sorrows. In the midst of any situation and in the everyday, God is present offering His rest and peace. He promises to go with you and give you rest. Whether you are facing final papers (like me!) and deadlines, the loss of a dear one, sickness or health, the staff at Westside are praying that we would have a keen sense of God meeting us right where we are. We are praying that you are able to remember His promises and enter into peace and rest. We would be honored to pray for you in person; email the office to set up a time: admin@westsidechristian.com.

Blessings,
Meredith
